As a nation, we are remembering those who lost their lives on 9-11 sixteen years ago, and all those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the fight since. But for many, our immediate thoughts and prayers are centered on family, friends, and colleagues caught in the impact areas of the wildfires in the west and Hurricanes Harvey and Irma. We all want to do something to help. But what? Knowing how to contribute can sometimes be more critical than when.

Everyone has his or her own opinion about various charity organizations, so we are not going to endorse any particular one. But do make sure you contact the charity of your choice and ask them what to contribute. Experts warn that sending unneeded items can clog any relief system, and rushing into the affected area can increase the risk to life.
